Summer Music Courses

The Next Summer Music Courses will take place on:
25 - 29 July 2026

           If you would like to apply for a course after the deadline, please get in                    touch and we will do our best to fit you in if there are any places still                        available.

🎵 Who can come

Open to School Years R-13 (Ages 5-18)

Complete beginners to experienced young musicians - all abilities are welcome!

📍 Location

Courses take place in person at Rainham Mark Grammar School and online via Zoom.

💷 Cost
  • KS1 Course: £5.00 (£2.50 for current MMA Music Centre Members)

  • Beginner Course: £12.50 (£10.00 for current MMA Music Centre Members)

  • Instrumental Course: £30.00 (£20.00 for current MMA Music Centre Members)

  • Online Music Tech: £5.00 per session (FREE for current MMA Members of the Music Centre and Weekly Music Tech sessions)

🎶 What’s On
KS1 Music Course - Sunday 26 July - 09:45 - 11:45

Our KS1 course is designed to introduce KS1 children to music through some exciting and engaging musical activities. The activities will include musical games, fun songs and the chance to perform together using a range of percussion instruments. We hope that your children will learn lots of new musical skills, which build and develop the foundations for learning instruments. 

Entry requirements: No previous experience is necessary. For children in Reception going into Year 1 in September and children who are currently in Years 1 and 2.

Beginner Music Course - Tuesday 28 July - 09:45 - 15:00

This one-day course gives opportunities to take part in a range of fun musical activities, such as bucket drumming, playing boom whackers, singing, body percussion and being part of a band.

 

Entry requirements: For those with no musical experience through to those who are learning an instrument and are at beginner to grade 1 standard. For pupils in school years 3 to 9 (age 7-14).

Bring your own instrument. If you are learning one.

3-Day Instrumental Course - Saturday 25/Sunday 26/Monday 27 July - 09:45 - 15:00

Our 3-day Summer Instrumental Course will include opportunities for playing in small instrumental groups and a large ensemble. Fun musicianship activities will also be included. All instruments welcome.

Participants must attend all three days.

Concert for Friends and Family: Monday 27th July 2.30pm (estimated finish time approx. 3.15pm).  This is a free, non-ticketed concert.  *Please note there will be an opportunity to donate on the day should you wish.

Entry requirements: For those that are grade 2 through to grade 8 standard. This is a suggested standard for the course, you do not need to have taken the exam. For pupils in school years 4 to 13 (age 8-18).

Bring your own instrument. 

Online Music Technology Courses - Wednesday 29 July

Beginners Course - 9:30am – 10:30am:

This session will offer you the chance to work with an online Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). You will learn how to create music electronically using loops and how to find and import loops to match sounds and styles.

Entry requirements:  No previous experience necessary. For pupils in school years 5 to 13 inclusive (age 9-18). You will need a laptop or desktop computer for this course.

Intermediate Course – 10:45am – 11:45pm:

This session will give you a chance to explore BandLab in even more depth. You will get the chance to learn some mixing and mastering techniques (the process a track goes through after being created). You will learn how to add effects effectively and how to balance out tracks, so they sound even in the mix. Looking at panning and how to use it to create a better listening experience.

 

Entry requirements:  For pupils in school years 5 to 13 inclusive (age 9-18) who have had some experience using BandLab. You will need a laptop or desktop computer for this course.

  3. Return forms to info@medwaymusicassociation.co.uk (or hand it in at the Saturday Music Centre) Postal details can be found on the application form.

  4. Once received, someone from MMA will be in touch.​

It is hoped that all applicants will be accepted for the Easter Music Courses, but places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.  Places are secured on receipt of payment and payments are non-refundable.

Medway Music Association is passionate about making music available to all young people in Medway and beyond and that no one is excluded on financial grounds. If the cost of the Music Course is prohibitive, please email info@medwaymusicassociation.co.uk explaining your situation for the attention of MMA Director, Derek Blease, please include your application form in order to be considered for bursary support for the Music Course. 

All bursary requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
